Automation Not Processing Members

If GroupHunter isn't automatically approving or declining members, here's how to diagnose and fix the issue.

Quick Checks

  1. Group is enabled — Go to Groups, check the toggle is ON (green) for that group
  2. Group settings are saved — Open group Settings and check the Autoapprove tab has criteria configured and saved
  3. Extension is running — The Chrome extension must be running in the same browser where you're logged into Facebook
  4. Correct Facebook page — Open the Facebook Group's Members → Membership Requests page, not the main group page

Step-by-Step Diagnosis

1. Check Per-Group Settings Are Configured

The primary automation is set up per group, not globally.

  1. Go to Groups in the sidebar
  2. Click Settings next to the group
  3. Open the Autoapprove tab
  4. Check that at least one auto-approve criterion is enabled (e.g. "Require email in answers")
  5. If no criteria are enabled, automation won't approve anyone — it's off by default
  6. Click Save Settings after enabling criteria

2. Verify the Extension is Active

  1. Open Chrome and check the GroupHunter icon is visible in the toolbar
  2. Go to
    chrome://extensions
and confirm GroupHunter is enabled (blue toggle)
  3. Go to the Facebook Group's Membership Requests page
  4. You should see the GroupHunter overlay appear — if not, see Extension Not Detected

3. Trigger a Sync

Automation runs when the extension syncs members from Facebook:

  1. Open the Facebook Group's Membership Requests page
  2. Wait for the GroupHunter overlay to appear
  3. Click Sync Pending Members in the overlay
  4. Return to the dashboard and check Members → Pending for updated members

4. Check if Members Meet Criteria

Members are only auto-approved if they meet all your enabled criteria. Check:

  • Did the member provide an email? (Check their record in Pending Requests)
  • Did they answer all questions?
  • Do their answers contain the required keywords?
  • Are their answers long enough?

Members who don't meet criteria are left as pending for manual review — they won't be auto-approved or auto-declined.

5. Check Decline Rules Aren't Interfering

Decline rules fire before approve rules. If a decline rule is too broad, it may be declining members before they can be approved. Review your decline criteria in the Autoapprove tab.

Global Automation Rules (Advanced)

If you're using Automation → Rules (global rules), check:

  • The rule is active (toggle is on)
  • The rule action is correct (Approve vs. Decline)
  • The rule conditions actually match the members in question

Note — For most users, per-group settings (not global rules) is where automation is configured. See Per-Group Settings for the correct setup flow.
