Installing the Chrome Extension

The GroupHunter Chrome extension is the core component that connects your Facebook Groups to the dashboard. This guide will walk you through installation and initial setup.

System Requirements

Before installing, ensure you have:

  • Google Chrome (version 90 or higher)
  • A Facebook account with admin access to at least one Group
  • An active internet connection

GroupHunter currently only supports Google Chrome. Support for other Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave) is planned for future releases.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Find GroupHunter in the Chrome Web Store

  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. Go to the Chrome Web Store
  3. Search for "GroupHunter"
  4. Look for the official GroupHunter extension (green icon with "GH" letters)

Alternatively, use this direct link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/grouphunter/[extension-id]

Step 2: Add to Chrome

  1. Click the blue Add to Chrome button
  2. A permission popup will appear showing required permissions
  3. Review the permissions (see below for details)
  4. Click Add Extension

The extension will download and install automatically (takes ~10 seconds).

Step 3: Verify Installation

After installation:

  1. Look for the GroupHunter icon in your Chrome toolbar (top-right)
  2. If you don't see it, click the puzzle piece icon (Extensions menu)
  3. Find GroupHunter in the list and click the pin icon to keep it visible

You should now see the green GroupHunter icon in your toolbar. Click it to open the extension popup.

Understanding Permissions

GroupHunter requests the following permissions:

Storage

Why: To save your authentication token, settings, and cached data locally.

Tabs

Why: To detect when you open Facebook Group admin pages and activate features.

Cookies

Why: To sync your Facebook login session with the extension (no passwords stored).

Host Permissions

  • facebook.com/* — To read and interact with Group admin pages
  • app.grouphunter.io/* — To communicate with the dashboard
  • appserver.grouphunter.io/* — To sync data with our backend

GroupHunter only accesses Facebook Group admin pages. We never read your News Feed, messages, or other private data. Your Facebook credentials are never stored or transmitted.

Connecting to Your Account

After installation, you need to link the extension to your GroupHunter account:

Step 1: Open the Dashboard

  1. Go to app.grouphunter.io
  2. Log in with your GroupHunter credentials
  3. The extension will automatically detect the dashboard

Step 2: Sync Authentication

When you open the dashboard, the extension:

  1. Reads your authentication token from the dashboard cookies
  2. Stores it securely in the extension storage
  3. Shows a "Connected" status in the extension popup

You can verify the connection by clicking the extension icon — it should show:

  • Status: Connected
  • Facebook: Logged in
  • Groups: [number] groups synced

Testing the Extension

Let's make sure everything works:

Test 1: Facebook Detection

  1. Open Facebook in Chrome
  2. Go to one of your Groups
  3. Click Members → Membership requests (or Member requests in the left sidebar)
  4. You should see a GroupHunter overlay appear on the page

The overlay shows:

  • Number of pending members detected
  • "Sync to Dashboard" button
  • GroupHunter logo watermark

Test 2: Dashboard Communication

  1. With a Facebook Group admin page open, click the overlay's Sync to Dashboard button
  2. Wait 5-10 seconds for the sync to complete
  3. Open the Dashboard
  4. Go to Members → Pending
  5. Your pending members should appear in the list

If members appear in the dashboard after syncing, the extension is working correctly! 🎉
