Spam Prevention

Use GroupHunter's auto-decline criteria to automatically filter out low-quality member requests and protect your group from spam. Configure these in each group's Per-Group Settings.

Setup

  1. Go to Groups in the sidebar
  2. Click Settings next to a group
  3. Open the Autoapprove tab
  4. Configure the Auto-Decline Criteria section

Available Decline Criteria

Decline If No Email

Auto-decline members who didn't provide an email address in their answers.

This is the most effective filter for most groups — it eliminates members who give minimal effort responses and ensures every approved member is a trackable lead.

Enable: Decline if no email

Block Keywords

Auto-decline if any answer contains keywords you've specified. Useful for:

  • Common spam phrases ("make money fast", "click my link", "DM me")
  • Competitor brand names
  • Inappropriate language

Enter one keyword per line. The match is case-insensitive.

Example spam keywords:

make money fast
work from home
click my link
earn $500
dm me for

Minimum Answer Length

Require answers to be a minimum number of characters. Declines one-word or single-character responses.

Set a value of 10–20 characters to filter out "Yes", "No", "N/A" type responses.

How Decline Rules Are Applied

Decline criteria are evaluated before approve criteria:

  1. Check each decline rule against the member's answers
  2. If any decline rule matches → auto-decline
  3. If no decline rules match → check approve criteria
  4. If approve criteria met → auto-approve
  5. Otherwise → leave as pending for manual review

Warning — Test your keyword filters carefully. Overly broad keywords (e.g. "free") could accidentally decline legitimate members who use that word in their answers.

Decline Messages

When a member is auto-declined, GroupHunter can send them a polite decline message via Facebook. Set this up in the Autoresponder tab of group settings.

See Welcome Messages for guidance on writing decline messages.

Manual Decline

For members left in pending, you can manually decline them from Members → Pending Requests. This also triggers the decline message if configured.

Viewing Declined Members

Go to Members → Declined to see all declined members (auto and manual). This page shows:

  • Why they were declined (if auto-declined with a reason)
  • Their lead score (useful to review if any high-score leads were accidentally declined)
  • Date declined

Regularly review this page to ensure automation isn't declining good leads.
