Capture Emails from Members
GroupHunter automatically extracts email addresses from Facebook Group membership question answers. Here's how to maximise your email capture rate.
How Email Capture Works
When a member answers your group's membership questions, GroupHunter's extension reads those answers and uses pattern matching to find and extract any email addresses. This happens automatically when members are synced — no extra setup needed beyond enabling a group.
Captured emails appear in:
- The member's record in the All Members page
- Your connected Google Sheet (per group)
- Webhook payloads (if you've set up webhooks)
Step 1: Optimise Your Membership Questions
The biggest factor in email capture rate is whether you ask for emails directly. Go to your Facebook Group settings and update your membership questions:
High capture rate questions:
- "What's your email address?" (direct, highest capture rate)
- "How can we contact you? (email preferred)"
- "Drop your best email below and we'll send you our free [resource]"
Lower capture rate questions:
- "Tell us about yourself" (members may include email but often don't)
- "How did you find us?" (rarely includes email)
Tip — Facebook allows up to 3 membership questions. Use at least one specifically asking for an email address.
Step 2: Enable Email Requirement in GroupHunter
In your group's Per-Group Settings (Autoapprove tab), enable:
- Require email in answers — only auto-approve members who provided an email
- Decline if no email — automatically decline members who didn't provide an email
This filters your member list to only people who gave contact details, making your lead list cleaner.
Step 3: Set Up Google Sheets Export
Connect a Google Sheet to the group to automatically capture all emails in a spreadsheet:
- Open group Settings → Setup tab
- Paste your Google Sheet URL (Editor permission required)
- Click Verify and Save
Now every approved member's email is written to the sheet automatically.
See Google Sheets Export for detailed setup.
Viewing Captured Emails
On the All Members page:
- The email column shows the captured address (or blank if none)
- Use the search box to search by email address
- Filter by "has email" to see only members with captured emails
Email Capture Rate
Your email capture rate = (members with emails ÷ total approved members) × 100
View this in Analytics on the per-group breakdown table. A good capture rate is 60%+. If you're below this:
- Review your membership questions (are you explicitly asking for email?)
- Consider enabling "Require email" in Autoapprove settings
Using Captured Emails
Captured emails can be used to:
- Build an email marketing list (export from Google Sheets → import to Mailchimp, ConvertKit, etc.)
- Reach out to high-score leads personally
- Add to a CRM via webhook + Zapier
